My daughter Lucy told me she wants to be an artist when she grows up, and I think she’s definitely got the knack! I really loved this drawing she did of me - it’s so cool to see my likeness as viewed through the eyes of a child (I particularly love the attention paid to my hairline….). Anyways, I thought this was a good opportunity to teach her that her art already has value by giving her her first licensing deal. It took me a very long time to understand the ways an artist can monetize their creativity, so I'm hoping to give her a little bit of a head start with this project we had so much fun working on together.

So after an extremely lengthy negotiation process, we struck a deal and she agreed to let me use her drawing on my merch in exchange for 50% of all profits in perpetuity. She’s a bit of a shark, yes, but that’s important in business! Her share will be deposited directly into a dedicated account and held in trust, and the funds are only to be spent on things like art classes, art supplies, the creation of a dedicated art space in our home, and maybe one day, post-secondary!
